13 April is the backup date

There is a gear check for all competitors prior to the start and the compulsory gear list is strictly enforced. All your gear is examined, so if you want to vacuum pack your gear you will need to do this after the gear check.

MINIMUM Gear List for the Southern Crossing and Kelly Glass Kime Climb

  1. Windproof and waterproof jacket + over trousers (you will need more than lightweight shower/wind protection) Choose the jacket you would want to have if you break your ankle and need to be carried on a stretcher off the course.

  2. Long sleeve thermal (if you are not already wearing it)Spare long sleeve thermal top and thermal leggings (Skins are not appropriate) (this means if you are not wearing a long sleeve thermal at the start, you will need two long sleeve thermal tops in your bag)

  3. Thermal hat + gloves

  4. Emergency blanket/bag

  5. Map + Compass (GSP units are not accepted as a replacement for map + compass) Map Link to Print

  6. Non digital compass is required (the battery on your watch may run out)

  7. Whistle Food and Water, enough for your estimated time

  8. Head lamp

  9. Basic first aid, strapping tape and pain killers

  10. Cell phone (their is cell coverage on some parts of the course)

  11. Encouraged to carry a PLB or inreach device

The race is long and the conditions can change very quickly, so although you may think you don't need to carry this gear, ... you do!

    Map

    As part of your safety gear it is required you carry a map of the course with you. GSP units are not accepted as alternative to map and compass, but can be used as an addition, if you wish to carry one.

    Gear Transport

    We recognise you will need a fresh, warm dry set of gear at the end of the race so we will transport a gear bag for you from the start to road end a 45min walk from the finish.
