Saturday 9 March

Classic Southern Crossing

Registrations Open 1 December 2019.  Close 1 March 2019 6pm

Training Run Confirmed

A Training run is scheduled for Saturday 23 February for those who want to try the course with experienced mountain runners and also those mad ones who can't get enough of the tops!

If you wish to be part of the training run, please email tararua.race@gmail.com before Friday 15 Feb so we can sort logistics.

The Tararua Mountain Race is one of New Zealand's oldest mountain races, having first been raced in 1990.   The Tararua Ranges are widenly renowned in New Zealand for tough mountain terrain and weather, so the race is not for the inexperienced or faint hearted!

Traditionally the race is held over the Southern Crossing.  From 2014 a new route was introduced as an alternative course along the river valleys between Kaitoke and Holdsworth - another classic Tararua tramping route.

TMR 2018 Thanks to the volunteers

Without the help and support from all the volunteers, the race wouldn't happen every year. Thanks in particular to our race marshals at Alpha - Clive, Guy and Cam, and Kime - Mike, Fi and AJ - who all headed up to the huts on Friday night carrying the lollies and poweraid!
Brent and Gordon were in charge of race registration and gear check before races got a lift from Bridget to the start line.
At the finish there was Laurie keeping a track of all competitors, Jill doing timing and Diane on results. We also have Alyse as the doctor at the finish who helped with timing and results rather than administering medical support - yah!
On the tops we had the SAR teams who were keeping a watchful eye on our competitors, who also headed into the hills on Friday night.
At Lower Hutt Police Station we had Ants, Don and John keeping the communications going for our marshals and SAR teams. Gavin at the start and Don and crew at the end rounded out our communications team.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the race, we really appreciate your time and support.
